Why We Live in Clinton

Stepping out in the morning and smelling the first breath of spring after months of frozen ground -- inhaling the fragrance of the lilacs, the lilies, the lavender, as well as hearing the peepers, robins, bluebirds, swifts, and cicadas are Arthur's way of saying that the rhythm, soil, and toil of this place are in his blood.

Phillippa came here 25 years ago, marrying Arthur who arrived almost 50 years ago with his family. His parents restored a home on Hollow Road that is one of the oldest in town. It is a continuing saga of renovation by Arthur since parts of the house are now over 250 years old. Phillippa provides marketing support for the Roosevelt institutions in Hyde Park, including the FDR Presidential Library and Museum.

We recently added the field across the road to our property so that we are buffered from development and have access to Wappingers Creek, which Arthur has been active in protecting. Clinton is home to many of our friends, both long-term residents and newcomers. We are all so fortunate to be surrounded by the many cultural opportunities of the Mid-Hudson valley.

Dutchess County, the Town of Clinton and the politics thereof are decidedly quirky. Sometimes you couldn't make it up. But we are quirky too; this life and all it contains is home.
