PUBLIC FORUM RE: 14/18 INTERSECTION

On Wednesday, September 20 at 8 PM 10 residents of the Town of Clinton met with County Legislator Joel Tyner to discuss their concerns about the upcoming installation of a blinking light traffic signal at the intersection of county routes 14 and 18 in Clinton Hollow. Dutchess County DPW officials were also invited to attend, along with Town Board members, but none were present.
The history of the "blinking light" issue was reviewed, including:

* The intersection is certainly hazardous to all travelers.

*   The majority of attendees were concerned that the installation of a blinking traffic light (red facing route 14, Hollow Road, and yellow facing route 18, Centre/Clinton Hollow Roads) will be ineffective in slowing and controlling traffic.

*   The residents were concerned about the apparent lack of public information from the Dutchess County Department of Public Works.

The group discussed attempting to make further contact with the DPW officials involved; asking the New York State Department of Transportation to provide a mediator to assist with public discussion; and appearing before the Dutchess County Legislature to dispute the DPW's decision.

PRESS CONFERENCE RE: BLINKING LIGHT AT CLINTON HOLLOW INTERSECTION

Friday afternoon, September 8th, County Legislator Joel Tyner held a press conference protesting the County Department of Public Work's plan to install a blinking light at the intersection of Hollow Road and Centre Road in Clinton Hollow. The event was attended by about 15 local residents who were very vocal and well spoken, expressing their opposition to the County's plan. Disappointingly, there were no press members attending to record the residents' concerns. All comments were videotaped, however, to be aired on local public television. Read more
